Storytellers @ The Station -The Weeping Willows

Every song penned by The Weeping Willows is a love song. They’d deny that, of course. These tracks, they’d claim, are works of imagination – tales of cruelty, tragedy, murder and betrayal, all populated by gamblers, sinners, infidels and travelling salesmen (read: wandering musicians). Ask Andy or Laura to define their work and they’d probably hit you with phrases like “cautionary tales”, “murder ballads” or simply “folk songs”, but in truth these are love songs – each and every one of them.

Support for this session is City of Casey Artist Nia Robertson.

Congratulations to The Weeping Willows who won Instrumental of the Year and Bluegrass Recording of the Year at the 2022 Golden Guitar Awards! Casey Radio are thrilled to be supporting such phenomenal artists!

Storytellers @ The Station-Gretta Ziller

Live recording of Storytellers @ the Station - with our guest - Gretta Ziller supported by Melbourne singer-songwriter - Riley Catherall

First impressions aren’t always right. If you’ve been foolish enough to nail down the sound of acclaimed songwriter http://www.grettaziller.com then prepare to have the rug pulled out from under you. Queen of Boomtown, her stunning debut record, defies categorisation and demands repeated listens.

Ziller brought together an impressive array of musicians to perform on Queen of Boomtown, the recordings featuring members of Saskwatch, The Cat Empire, and the bands of Angus & Julia Stone, Passenger and Dan Sultan. Accomplished songwriter Jen Mize provides backing vocals while Henry Wagons appears as a guest on ‘Round and Round’.

Storytellers@ The Station-Alison Ferrier

Live recording of Storytellers @ the Station - with our special guest - Alison Ferrier

https://www.instagram.com/alison_ferrier/

Ferrier is a prolific songwriter and talented guitarist, performing regularly in Melbourne with some of the town’s best musicians.

Her debut album, Sugar Baby, was released in 2012. She followed that up with another long player Be Here Now in 2015. Here’s what the critics said:

“Country punk, rock and blues meets folkish melancholy and gingham country with a dash of double denim '70s sweetness. The songwriting is better than merely solid, but what sealed the deal for me was just how inviting Ferrier's voice is.” Sydney Morning Herald https://www.facebook.com/alisonferriermusic/

“Vocals throughout are effortlessly refined, with conviction and vulnerability in equal measure.” Rhythms Magazine

She began her music career after founding country duo Wayward Fancies, with stints in The Hallrunners and Sean McMahon's Western Union

Storytellers @ the Station – Mike Rudd

Live recording of Storytellers @ the Station - with our special guest - Mike Rudd

After relocating to Australia from New Zealand in the 1960’s Mike Rudd began a contribution to Australian music that ranks with the most very significant. Even if he’s never written another song after the timeless classic I’ll Be Gone with the band Spectrum his status as a legend of Australian music would still be assured forever but from Spectrum through to his next band Ariel and other subsequent bands Mike has created a body of work among the most original and diverse in the history of Australian music. We are so proud to have Mike join us for Storytellers at the Station for 2 x 45minute sets of songs from his remarkable catalogue spanning over 50 years. Accompanying Mike for his Storytellers session will be virtuoso of the piano accordion, George Betrumlis.

Storytellers @ The Station -Dave Diprose

Melbourne's Dave Diprose has spent over 30 years honing his skills as a songwriter and storyteller. His music brings a richness and depth that draws from older styles such as bluegrass, pre-war blues and the great Texas songwriters. Dave is a formidable guitarist whose sparkling  arrangements add interest and context to the material to provide a complete performance.

Dave’s heartfelt presentation, humour and old-fashioned storytelling have etched his place into the acoustic music scene. Says Billy Pinnell (Australian Music Guru) "Dave's storytelling adds to the appeal of his songs". A family history steeped in rural settings brings a strong empathy with those on the land and delivers insightful stories of genuine Australian experiences. His song “Hillbilly Radio” was winner of the 2019 Bluegrass Song of the Year (Tamworth Songwriters Salute).

A performer with decades of experience to boast, Dave is a true professional who has performed with and supported a host of international acts and has appeared at numerous festivals across the country. He is a powerful performer and storyteller and one of the outstanding acoustic music artists in the country.
