Vanessa Gatica

Vanessa Gatica is originally from Mexico and arrived in Australia in November 2015 with her Australian husband. Vanessa has a Bachelor in Media and Communications from Mexico, and has worked in television behind and in front of cameras, on Televisa Guadalajara, Mexico, the largest speaking multimedia company in Latin America.
In Australia Vanessa immediately connected with the Spanish speaking community and worked as a community broadcaster.

Vanessa broadcasted for 3 years on a weekly sports show covering Australian and international sports such as A-League Football, Rugby, AFL and tennis, as well as all other sporting events around the globe. Vanessa also covered the Harmony Cup where she was interviewing the Spanish AFL teams on the day.

Vanessa has a great deal of experience when it comes to all forms of media, and in conjunction the AFL and the National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters council (NEMBC), has worked as a Broadcaster and Interviewer for the AFL Multicultural Project in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. premiership seasons.

Vanessa broadcasted 3 AFL games in Spanish live from the MCG and Etihad Stadium, as well as a weekly podcast with news and results from the round. Vanessa has conducted many interviews with players and officials of various AFL clubs to promote the multiculturalism in the AFL.
In 2017 and 2018 the project was nominated for and won the Innovative Program of the year at the annual NEMBC awards. Vanessa was invited to speak of her experience at the 2017 NEMBC Media Conference in Canberra, the largest annual gathering of ethnic community broadcasters in Australia.

In 2018, Vanessa was invited to anchor a pilot program on Channel 31 called The Multicultural Football Show alongside her 2 co-panellists Harbir Singh Khan and Gabriel D’Angelo. The show focused on current AFL news and programs as well as celebrate the enormous contribution multicultural communities have made to AFL. Due to the success of the pilot, the half hour show now screens every Thursday night on Channel 31 for the entirety of the 2019 AFL premiership season, and has featured guests such George Demetriou, Kevin Sheedy and Terry Daniher. Vanessa, Harbir and producer Fiv Antonious were recently interviewed on ABC radio Sport Program with Amanda Smith, telling their stories about how they love speaking their language and presenting the Multicultural AFL footy show.

In April 2020 Vanessa join the NEMBC Multilingual news service, delivering 150 spanish podcast through the year.
The Victorian Multicultural Commission has given the prestigious Excellence in Media award to the NEMBC on December 2020.

In 2021 Vanessa joined Casey radio 97.7FM to host the Latin show, Mezcal Latin Groove, this is a magazine style show, featuring, latin music, and Spanish rock, also speaking about the latest events and community issues within the latin community in Melbourne.
