Soap Aid is an Australian charity based in Dandenong, Vic. We recycle leftover hotel soap bars into new, hygienic bars that are distributed free to communities in need. Soap Aid is the only charity in Australia undertaking this humanitarian and environmental effort with recycled waste soap.
Washing hands with soap is second nature for many, but for those in many vulnerable communities, soap is hard to access and is often perceived as a luxury item. Although the reasons vary, access to soap can be prevented by the cost, availability of the bars in rural areas with poor road infrastructure, and the need to prioritize food and water over sanitary goods.
We support remote and Indigenous communities in Australia, as well as families overseas facing hygiene poverty. Our work improves health outcomes, prevents disease, reduces waste, and provides dignity through access to basic hygiene.
Through our Hotel to Hands Programme, we partner with accommodation providers to divert waste soap from landfill and turn it into lifesaving hygiene supplies.
